Duties:

Working within the Barrie Fire and Emergency Services Department, you will be part of a dynamic team responsible for protecting the lives, well-being and property of the people of Barrie through dedication to life safety, commitment to community service and the preservation of the environment.
Located at one of the City’s five fire stations, you will be responsible for responding to fires, fire alarms, technical rescues, hazardous material incidents, medical emergencies, marine incidents and other emergencies. As a frontline member of the Barrie Fire and Emergency Services Department, you will play an integral role delivering fire protection services through public education, fire safety standards and enforcement, and emergency response.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- 18 years of age or older
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Possess an Ontario High School Graduation Diploma or equivalent
- Possess a valid Ontario Fire Administration Inc. (OFAI) Candidate Testing Services certificate including Stage One, Two, Three and the Swim Test at the time of application. Certificates must be valid up to the posting deadline, May 4, 2017. Please Note: Candidates may be required to renew their certificates at their own expense as a condition of employment.
- NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter I and II certified from an accredited program from a recognized institution, accredited by the International Fire Services Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Pro Board (must be complete with seals)
- Possess a valid and current (within 3 years) standard first aid certificate and a valid "basic rescuer" CPR certificate (Level C) or better
- Possess a valid Class "D" Ontario Driver’s Licence with "Z" endorsement and clean drivers abstract. Candidates must show proof of licence and abstract at the conditional job offer stage; not to be submitted at time of application. Abstract is to be dated within 30 days of the conditional job offer.
- A Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required, at the candidate’s expense, to be submitted at the time of the conditional job offer. Employment offers will only be made if the results of the candidate’s Criminal Record Check performed in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code are satisfactory.
- Possess superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work co-operatively as a member of an effective and professional team
- A strong desire to serve the community, a solid work ethic, a sense of loyalty and duty, and the ability and willingness to follow instructions promptly and efficiently
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications would be distinct assets:
- University degree in any discipline
- Community College Diploma in any discipline
- Trade Certification in any discipline recognized by the Ontario College of Trades
- EMCA Designation
- Previous experience in emergency services, construction, trades mechanical, large vehicle operation, military (please define if experience is full-time/part-time/seasonal)
- Community Service involvement (please define role and commitment level e.g., yearly, monthly, weekly)
- Computer literacy, utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook)
