You must have Stages One, Two and Three to apply to Brampton.  The Ontario Fire Administration Inc. does not submit your certificates or application to Brampton.  Each candidate is required to submit their application directly to Brampton with all the necessary requirements as per the requirements in their job posting.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE:  OFAI Test Facility is closed on December 21, 2015 and will not reopen until January 6, 2016.

FIREFIGHTER

Under the direction of a Firefighting Captain, you will be responsible for combating fires, performing rescue operations and providing medical assistance in an emergency environment.  You will also handle routine maintenance of firefighting equipment/ department property, public fire safety education and inspect properties and equipment for fire hazards.  Perform other similar and related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma;
  • Graduate of the Pre-Service Fire Fighter Education & Training Program or NFPA 1001 - Fire Fighter I & II Certified;
  • Valid Ontario Class “DZ” Drivers’ license (by the interview stage);
  • Valid and current First Aid and CPR Certificate;
  • Successful completion of the Ontario Fire Administration Candidate Testing Program (Stages One, Two and Three) www.ofai.ca;
  • Meet all employment conditions as required by the City of Brampton.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Firefighter or Certified Career Firefighter through the Ontario Fire Marshal (Components 1,2,3 testing) or equivalent;
  • Firefighter experience (volunteer or professional);
  • Fire Technology education;
  • Mechanical training or experience;
  • Medical training (i.e. paramedic, nursing, etc.);
  • Knowledge of firefighting equipment, terminology and practice;
  • Demonstrated community service involvement;
  • Dedication to customer service;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Transportation costs and the OFAI Candidate Testing Program fees will be the responsibility of the applicant. Candidates must successfully complete all tests.
