Fire Fighter

In a team environment and under command of a Fire Fighting Captain, you will be responsible for fire suppression duties such as mitigating fire losses, performing rescue operations and providing medical assistance in emergency situations.  You will also be responsible for routine maintenance of fire fighting equipment/department property, public fire safety education and inspect properties and equipment for fire hazards.  Perform other similar and related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possess a Secondary School Graduation Certificate or equivalent
  • Graduate of the Pre-Service Fire Fighter Education and Training Program or NFPA 1001 – Fire Fighter I and II Certified
  • Valid Ontario Unrestricted Class “DZ” Driver’s License (by the interview stage)
  • Valid and current First Aid (Emergency First Responder Level) and CPR and AED  Certificates
  • Successful completion of the Ontario Fire Administration Candidate Testing Program (Stages One,  Two and Three and Swim Test) www.ofai.ca
  • Meet all employment conditions as required by the City of Cambridge

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Fire Fighter or Certified Career Fire Fighter through the Ontario Fire Marshal (Components 1, 2, 3 testing) or equivalent
  • Fire Fighter experience (volunteer or professional)
  • Fire Technology education
  • Mechanical training or experience
  • Medical training (ie  Emergency Medical Responder Level, Paramedic, Nursing, etc)
  • Knowledge of fire fighting equipment, terminology and practice
  • Demonstrated community service involvement
  • Dedication to customer service
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
