Position Title Probationary Firefighter
Position Overview The City of Kitchener’s Fire Department is currently accepting resumes to establish a pool of qualified candidates for all vacancies in 2016 for the position of Probationary Firefighter.

Responsibilities
Requirements:
  • Must be a graduate of a recognized Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training Program or NFPA 1001 – Firefighter I & II certified from an accredited program from a recognized institution
  • Must have successfully completed all three stages of the Ontario Fire Administration Inc. Candidate Testing Service prior to March 24, 2016
  • Must have valid and current First Aid training equivalent to Emergency First Responder or Emergency Medical Responder and Health Care Provider CPR.   Candidates must have the medical skills required to successfully pass the OFAI Stage Three Firefighter Technical Skills Medical Modality
  • Must have an outstanding employment record
  • Must have the ability to support and project values compatible with the organization
  • Must have strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Must have the ability to deal with difficult individuals, in a courteous and effective manner
  • Must be committed to work in a team environment
  • Upon hire must provide proof of a valid Class “DZ” drivers license deemed acceptable by the City of Kitchener
  • Upon hire must complete a pre-employment medical examination
  • Upon hire must provide proof of a satisfactory Police Records Check, including the Vulnerable Sector Screening deemed acceptable by the City of Kitchener
Preference will be given to candidates with the following:
  • Previous Firefighter experience (professional or volunteer)
  • Previous related work experience
  • Demonstrated community service involvement
  • Certified trade training or experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledge of firefighting equipment, terminology and practice
  • Other relevant specialized training/qualifications
