Enhanced check-in system due to COVID-19

OFAI is now using an enhanced check-in system at our test facility, Fire and Emergency Services Training Institute (FESTI), located at 2025 Courtneypark East in Mississauga.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to be a serious global health threat. We take the health and safety of all candidates and our evaluation staff seriously. As the pandemic continues to evolve at a rapid pace, we are introducing new measures in addition to those already in place, to ensure we are taking every precaution to keep everyone as safe as possible.
Starting on April 21, candidates will no longer enter the test facility upon arrival for your assessment. Instead, you will be required to follow the below procedure:
  1. Upon arrival, there will be a board located outside of the main doors at the test facility (FESTI) with a QR code. QR codes are square barcodes (two-dimensional barcodes) that provides or stores information in a machine-readable optical label. The data contained by a QR code can be anything from simple text to website links, to contact information and more.  QR codes, are scanned using the camera on any smart device.
  2. Scan the QR code with you smart device.  If you do not have a smart device, there will be an indicated button outside the main doors for you to press for further assistance.
  3. Once the QR code is scanned, it will will prompt you to open a website that contains a questionnaire. This must be completed in order to proceed with testing. Please return to your vehicle to complete these questions or, if you do not have a vehicle, find a safe location outside the facility.
  4. Complete the entire questionnaire, including the digital COVID-19 screening form. We also collect your phone number to assist with contacting you at the facility that day, and for the purpose of contact tracing.
  5. Once the questionnaire is completed, you will be directed to remain in your vehicle (or outside location) to await further instructions from a CTS team member regarding your testing procedure.
  6. Please  have a copy of your testing receipt from our office with you. Your OFAI receipt contains a barcode that is applicable to you which you will need after the above steps. A digital or printed copy is fine.

It is your responsibility to ensure you are healthy prior to testing. Should you say "yes" to any of the COVID-19 questions, you will NOT be permitted to test that day. The test facility will advise us in this case and you will be require to contact OFAI for next steps. Falsifying information on our COVID-19 testing protocols could result in your expulsion from the OFAI Candidate Testing Program. There are no exemptions or exceptions to this policy.

As a reminder, here are the current COVID-19 protocols in place for OFAI testing.
  • After booking an assessment, you are required to complete our mandatory COVID-19 health and safety screening found here
  • You must pre-screen for COVID-19 immediately prior to arriving onsite to determine if you can test by completing the self-assessment found here: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/self-assessment/ .
  • You must provide your own mask, and wear it properly (good fit that covers the nose and mouth) at all times at the test facility.
  • You will be required to undergo a COVID-19 health screening at the test facility, including a temperature check.
  • You must maintain physical distancing from all other candidates at the test facility.
  • You will be required to follow the entry and exit points accordingly at the test facility, and as directed by the evaluation team.
