You must have valid certificates for stages one, two and three to apply to the City of Peterborough. 

The Ontario Fire Administration Inc. does not submit your certificates or application to Peterborough.  Each candidate is required to submit their application directly to the City of Peterborough with all the necessary requirements as per the instructions in their job posting.  Their job posting can be found at:

CITY OF PETERBOROUGH

Peterborough Fire Services provides emergency and support services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to the citizens of the community.  We serve a base population of 80,000 (residents), and 9,000 students, and 6,000-day users (e.g. out of town workers, shoppers, etc), for a total day population of approximately 100,000. 

There are 3 stations throughout the City and we maintain a non-staffed station at the airport. Peterborough Fire Services provides employment for a total of 100 staff that is spread across divisions in prevention, administration, communications, suppression and rescue division, and training.   

A career as a Firefighter is both a demanding profession and a rewarding one.  Peterborough Fire Services is made up of a team of skilled professionals committed to providing a superior level of emergency services, fire prevention and public education. We seek highly talented individuals who have a keen interest in serving the public.   

Successful candidates will combat fires, perform rescue work, perform computer aided dispatch in the alarm room, administer designated emergency medical procedures, conduct public education programs, inspect buildings for fire hazards, operate and maintain fire fighting equipment and fire stations.  Peterborough Fire Services employees are members of the Peterborough Professional Fire Fighters Association. 

PRE-REQUISITE REQUIREMENTS:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent (as certified by the Ontario Ministry of Education)
  • Valid First Aid Certificate and Level “C” CPR Certificate
  • Valid DZ Ontario Driver’s licence with excellent Driver’s Abstract
  • Pleasure Craft Licence
  • Excellent hearing without having to use artificial aids
  • Visual acuity of 20/30 uncorrected (laser correction is acceptable)
  • Willing and able to work 24 hour shifts (days, nights, weekends and holidays)
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Have no criminal convictions for which a pardon has not been granted

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of Pre-Service Fire Fighter Education Training Program at an OFM Endorsed Community College and/or completion of OFM Provincial Fire Fighter Tests and/or NFPA 1001 Level I & II (or equivalency)
  • Full Certificate from Ontario Fire Chiefs - Ontario Fire Administration Inc. Candidate Testing (Stages One through Three).  For more information, please visit www.ofai.ca.  Please ensure you give yourself an adequate amount of time to complete this certificate prior to applying.
