Major Responsibilities
Emergency Duties:
- Responds to fire, medical, rescue, and other emergency calls.
- Performs duties including firefighting, forcible entry, search and rescue, ladder operations, hose handling, hydrant operations, ventilation, overhaul, and technical rescue support.
- Provides emergency medical treatment and CPR.
- Operates apparatus and equipment according to policy and the Highway Traffic Act.
- Conducts inspections and ensures compliance with fire/life safety guidelines.
- Cleans and restores equipment after calls.
- Works effectively with crew, police, and paramedics.
Non‑Emergency Duties:
- Daily cleaning and inspection of equipment and apparatus.
- Conducts safety checks and preventative maintenance.
- Maintains station cleanliness.
- Completes all assigned training.
- Participates in preplanning, district familiarization, and inspections.
- Provides public fire safety education.
General Responsibilities:
- Follows chain of command and uniform standards.
- Must be physically and psychologically prepared for emergencies.
- Must work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Must demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, communication, and the ability to work in diverse environments.
Key Qualifications:
- 18+ years old.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Valid Ontario Class D driver’s licence (or higher) with Z endorsement.
- Current OFAI CTS Certificates (various components).
- NFPA 1001 Level I & II from an OFM‑recognized IFSAC/ProBoard accredited institution.
- Valid EMR certification (or AEMCA).
- Ability to work 24‑hour shift schedule (average 42 hours/week).
- Successful Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Fit for intense physical/psychological work.
- Must meet Swim to Survive standard.
- Ability to work in extreme environments.
- Mechanical aptitude.
13-23. Additional communication, problem‑solving, teamwork, and customer‑service‑related competencies.
Assets:

- Advanced medical response experience.
- Bronze Medallion/Cross, OFAI Swim Test, scuba certification.
