The City of Cambridge Fire Department is seeking qualified and dedicated candidates for the position of Probationary Firefighter. This role supports the delivery of emergency response, fire suppression, rescue, medical, marine, public education, and prevention services to the community. Candidates must demonstrate sound judgment, physical ability, teamwork, and a strong commitment to service excellence
The City of Cambridge requires successful completion of the OFAI Candidate Testing Services Stages as listed below (as verified by possession of a OFAI CTS Certificate):
- Firefighter Aptitude and Character Assessment (Stage One) Proof of successful completion required; currency not required
- Hearing Assessment (Stage Two) Proof of assessment required; currency not required
- Vision Assessment (Stage Two) Proof of assessment required; currency not required
- Encapsulated Treadmill Test – NFPA 1582 or equivalent (Stage Two) Must be current and valid as of the posting closing date: April 30, 2026
- Swim Test Must be current and valid as of the posting closing date: April 30, 2026
- Firefighter Physical Aptitude Job-Related Test (FPAT) (Stage Three) Proof of successful completion required; currency not required
- NFPA 1001 Firefighter I & II including Hazardous Materials Operations Mandatory; must meet the requirements of O. Reg. 343/22
- Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) Mandatory; valid certificate required
