Medical Requirements to become a Firefighter in Ontario

In order to be eligible for consideration for employment in a municipal fire department within the Ontario fire service, you are required to:

• Normal vision in each eye without corrective lens ***
• Normal colour vision
• Normal unaided hearing

***Municipal fire departments that are partners with OFAI’s Candidate Testing Service require Candidates to meet NFPA 1582 vision standard. Other municipal fire departments set their own hiring criteria.
